To the sounds of Angus and Julia Stone and Regina Spektor, we travelled back down the coast, past Livorno and pulled up into Castiglioncello, where the wedding was to be held the next day.
We were staying just five minutes from the train station (Cast. is refreshingly small!) in quite a famous hotel – Miramare. Winston Churchill stayed here as one of the ‘liberators’ of Italy in 1944.
It was rather beautiful and very central. Well, pretty much everything is central here haha. The view that awaited us from our hotel room:
We went for a walk around and I had one part of my mind thinking ‘must remember that location for tomorrow!’. It was pretty much a ghost town when we got there. We didn’t see many people at all until mid afternoon! Looking for something to eat, we walked around and around until we finally stumbled on the main shopping street. We had the best pizza and spaghetti di pomodoro at ‘Ghostbusters’. Don’t ask – just go. I could have eaten there the entire holiday!
I met Alex and Melissa later in the afternoon and they took me for a tour to all the venues and location spots. Sure enough, I had picked one of them: The Pineta (Pines). I felt so much at home and had a giggle to myself that I had found the Kings Park Pines in Italy, just as they were bulldozed to the ground here.
That evening, we went to a fabulous wine bar overlooking the coast for aperitivo and wine. It is called Il Cardellino and the bruschetta – well I will remember it forever! The sun sank into the ocean as we chatted on the balcony built into the cliff side. A perfect night.
Stay tuned for all the wedding photographs from the next day!
